| John Jonas Royster, 82, went to be with his Lord on Friday, April 13, 2012 at White Oak Manor in Kings Mountain, N.C. A native of McDowell County N.C., he was the son of the late Chess Alonzo and Delia Upton Royster. He is preceded in death by one son, John Douglas Royster of Shelby; four brothers; Howard Royster of Marion, N.C.; Ernest Royster of Jacksonville, Fla., Charles Royster of Kirksville, Mo., James Royster of Shelby, N.C., W. C. Thrift of Shelby, N.C., and one sister, Ruth Royster Mince of Marion, N.C.
Mr. Royster was a member of Putnam Baptist Church where he was active in the adult choir and the Baptist Men’s Ministry.
He served in the Army National Guard from 1966-1989. He was retired from Leonard McSwain’s Septic Tank Service and Wal-Mart Inc.
Mr. Royster is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Melba Briscoe Royster; his children, Cindy Grigg and husband, Phillip of Lawndale, N.C., Jeffrey Royster and wife, Mindy of Belmont, N.C., Jackie Vassey and husband, Roger of Boiling Springs, N.C., Lisa Price and husband, James of Shelby, N.C., 13 grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren.
A service in celebration of John’s life will be held at 2:30pm on Tuesday, April 17, 2012 at Putnam Baptist Church in Shelby, N.C. The service will be officiated by the Rev. Bryan Glisson and the Rev. Gary Marburger.
Burial will follow at Cleveland Memorial Park in Shelby. The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 2:00 pm in the church sanctuary prior to the service.
