John Spencer Elliot
 John Spencer Elliott, 81, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 23, 2011 at home.  He was a native of Cleveland County and the son of the late Spencer and Mamie Patterson Elliott.  He was also preceded in death by his wife, Florence Johnson Elliott, and one son, David Wayne Hodgin.  Mr. Elliott will be remembered as a devoted Christian father and grandfather.  He enjoyed playing practical jokes which he took as well as he played.  He loved to fish and was very duty oriented to take care of the people he served.  Mr. Elliott worked for Duke Power for 18 years as a lineman and retired after 22 years as a lineman with the City of Shelby.  He won numerous safety awards one of which was for saving the life of a fellow co-worker. 

Mr. Elliott is survived by two sons, John Wesley Elliott and wife Susan of Henderson, NC and Bob Roadcap and wife Darla of Shelby; a daughter, Marian Elliott of Charlotte; brother-in-law, Melvin Johnson and wife Beverly of Shelby; grandchildren, Sherri Wray and husband Eric of Boiling Springs, John Walter Elliott and wife Anne-Marie of Raleigh, NC, and Robert Loy Roadcap of Shelby; great-grandchildren, Alishia Roadcap, Courtney Wray and Kaitlyn Elliott; numerous nieces and nephews; and dozens of children he taught in Sunday School classes over the years.

A celebration of life service will be held at 2:00pm on Monday, September 26, 2011 at the Chapel of Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home.  The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 2:00pm prior to the service at the funeral home.  The Rev. Calvin Morrison will be officiating.  Interment will follow at Sunset cemetery. 

The family requests memorials are given to Hospice Cleveland County, 951 Wendover Heights Drive, Shelby, NC 28150.
