Marvin Waldo Farris
 Marvin Waldo Farris, 79, of 164 McKee Drive, passed away Thursday, February 16, 2012, at the Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home.

Born on November 11, 1932 in Clover, Mr. Farris was the widower of Louise Cobb Farris and the son of the late James Nathan and Mary Bell Dover Farris. Mr. Farris was a member of First Baptist Church in Blacksburg, where he was a former assistant music director, deacon, and Sunday School Superintendent. He was a former music director at Mountain View Church in York County, Midway Baptist Church in Gaffney, Antioch Baptist Church, and Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. Mr. Farris also had a Senior Adult Ministry and was a driver for Meals on Wheels. He was a veteran of the United States Navy and retired from Versatile Knits in Clover.

Surviving Mr. Farris are two step-sons, Jerry Cobb and wife, Ellen, of Greenville, SC and Wayne Cobb and wife, Barbara, of Blacksburg; a step-daughter, LaRue Douglas and husband, Robert, of Gaffney; six sisters, Flossie Hopper and husband, Lloyd, of Clover, Vangie Turner and late husband, Junior, of Rock Hill, Lillie Belle Spearman and husband, Bill, of Clover, Mavis Cook and husband, Don, of Clover, Bernice Baumgardner and late husband, George, of Spartanburg, and Sadie Arrowood and husband, T.M., of Clover; six grandchildren, Kirk Douglas, Kecia Spencer, DeDe Batchler, and Chris Cobb, all of Gaffney, Danica Godwin of Blacksburg, and Rene Sawyer or Easley, SC; fourteen great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Farris was preceded in death by sisters Norma Boheler and late husband, Lester, Nina Neelands and late husband, Bill, Elsie Chesnee and husband, Ralph,Brothers James Arvil Farris and wife, Wilma, Harvey Andrew Farris and late wife, Sis, and infant sister, Myra Helen.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:00 P.M. atthe First Baptist Church of Blacksburg. Funeral services will immediately follow at 3 P.M. with Rev. Vernon Craig and Rev. Scott Hammett officiating. A private burial will be held at Mountain View Cemetery.
