Winifred “Winnie” Goldsmith McDaniel
 Winifred “Winnie” Goldsmith McDaniel, age 87, of Beams Mill Road, Ellenboro, NC, died Saturday, June 4, 2011 at Hospice House.

     Winnie was born on December 18, 1923 in Huntingdon, England to the late Walter Goldsmith and Martha Allen Goldsmith.  She was a longtime member of Oak Grove United Methodist Church where she was a faithful nursery worker for many years. Winnie was a homemaker, who enjoyed birds, flowers, walking, cooking and spending time with people.  She was a World War II “war bride” and a member of the Trans-Atlantic Brides and Parents Association.  Winnie retired from a happy career of caring for the Bailey family who fondly called her “Ga-Ga”.  

     In addition to her parents, she was preceded by her husband of 62 years, Leon H. McDaniel; one sister, Maude Goldsmith; two brothers, Eric Goldsmith and Wally Goldsmith.

     Survivors include her daughter, Mary Phillips and husband, Gary of Six Points; one son Gordon McDaniel and wife, Carolyn of Ellenboro; three grandchildren, Sandy Clatanoff and husband, Weston of Six Points, Rayona Millette and husband, Paul of Ellenboro and Crystal Newton also of Ellenboro.  She is also survived by four great-grandchildren, Katlynn Millette, Lauren Millette, Emma Millette, Chase Clatanoff and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

     Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, June 6, 2011 at Oak Grove United Methodist Church with Reverend David Hawkins officiating.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time in the church fellowship hall.
