2011 Big Tree Contest
Keep Shelby Beautiful (KSB) is celebrating the City’s tree heritage once again by conducting the 2011 BIG TREE CONTEST!
The 2011 BIG TREE CONTEST began on FEBRUARY 7 and it will end on MARCH 18, which is North Carolina Arbor Day. This year’s contest will also include nominations for the BIGGEST DOGWOOD category.
Winners of the contest will be announced on SATURDAY, APRIL 30 at the Arts on the Square Festival with the Mayor presenting the awards to the winners. A plaque will be placed by each winning tree.
KSB has been promoting trees as a resource for beautification for many years and recognizes Shelby’s great trees contribute to the attractiveness and livability of the community.
The BIG TREE Contest is designed to promote awareness of urban trees by searching for the largest (by circumference) tree in the City. Nominations for the 2011 contest can include trees nominated in 2010 except for last year’s winner, the Willow Oak, located at the corner of McBrayer and West Graham Streets.
BIG TREE CONTEST NOMINATION FORMS and CONTEST RULES are available online at www.cityofshelby.com/ksb or by contacting KSB Coordinator, Mary Byrnes at 704-484-6829 or by email at mary.byrnes@cityofshelby.com.
