A.V. Corry Sr.

Mr. A. V. Corry Sr. 93, of 6 Lamar Street Shelby, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 27, 2013 at Cleveland Regional Medical Center. He was born in Cherokee County, S. C. on June 2, 1920 to the late Melrose and Fannie Watts Corry.

 

Mr. Corry was a truck driver for Kern Brothers for many years and he also worked for Dover Mills, Daniel Construction Co. and ABB Combustions, retiring in 1988.

 

He was a member of First Baptist Church in Earl. He loved singing in the male choir before his health declined.  His passion was his grandchildren. He is well known for his wisdom and wise sayings and he loved talking about God and witnessing for Him to anyone.

 

He was preceded in death by a son, Joe Corry; five brothers; J. D. Watts, Mack Corry, Elsey Corry, T. P. Corry and Elis Corry and three sisters, Mary Lee Livsey, Mary Lois Bonner and Elizabeth Sharp.

 

He is survived by his wife of 75 years, Susie Dawkins Corry; five sons, A. V. Corry Jr., Lee Corry and Mack Corry (Joyce) all of Shelby Randy Corry of Canton, MI and Danny Corry of Shelby; three daughters, Pearlie Corry of Shelby Susie Dowdle of Earl, NC and Ann McKissick (Dennis) of Shelby; one brother, Melrose Corry of Baltimore, MD; one daughter-in-law, Rose Corry of Shelby; one sister-in-law, Viola Burris of Gaffney, SC; eighteen grandchildren, thirty nine great-grandchildren; eight great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.

 

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 1, 2013 at 1:00 PM at First Baptist Church in Earl with Rev. Randy Thurman officiating and Dr. Michael Bridges delivering the eulogy.  Burial will take place at the church cemetery.  Condolences can be expressed online at www.enloe.net.  Enloe Mortury is in charge of the arrangements.
