Mr. Abdul Waahid, formerly known as Clarence Young, Jr. 69, departed this life on Saturday, November 16, 2013 at Cleveland Pines Nursing Center in Shelby, NC.  He was born on May 18, 1944 in Cleveland County to the late Charles T. Young and Catherine Moore Young.

Mr. Waahid attended Cleveland High School later moving to Washington, DC graduating high school in 1964.  After graduation, he entered the U.S. Air Force in 1965 serving his country for two years. He retired from the Naval Research Laboratory and relocated back to Shelby in 2004.

Mr. Waahid enjoyed wood working and had a talent and skill in it building many things.  He also enjoyed watching tennis matches.  

He is survived by his uncle, Robert Moore (Willette) of Charlotte, NC; three cousins, Angela Downs (John), Ola Mae Betty (Charles) of Newton, NC and Lucinda Wilson of Charlotte and a host of other relatives and friends.         

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 23, 2013 at 12:30 PM at S.T. Enloe Memorial Chapel with Rev. Charles Rudisill officiating.  Burial will take place at Sunset Cemetery.  The family will receive friends at the home of his cousin, Angela Downs, 541 Sandy Run Church Rd. in Mooresboro.  Condolences can be expressed online at www.enloes.net.  Enloe Mortuary is in charge of the arrangements.
