Ada Ruth Hamrick Sherman

Mrs. Ada Ruth Hamrick Sherman, age 82, affectionately known as "Granny", passed away Monday, June 15, 2015. Granny was a very special mother, daughter, wife, grandmother, great-grandmother, cousin, and aunt to her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins. She loved to share her fond memories of times bowling and square dancing with friends. Most importantly, Granny was a Christian and modeled her faith to her children and grandchildren through her actions. Granny was a lover of nature and the outdoors. She was a faithful member of American Business Women's Association for many years. She was honored that she could serve as President of ABWA for numerous terms and was named ABWA Woman of the Year by the association. Granny was an encourager, supporter, and friend to everyone that knew her. She worked in the banking industry for many years beginning her career with First National Bank and then moving to First Citizens Bank. She served the Polkville Branch as manager until retirement. Granny has been a member of First Baptist Church of Shelby her entire life. She thoroughly enjoyed her days teaching Sunday School to young children.

Granny was preceded in death by her husband, Stan Sherman, her parents; Hubbard and Frances Hamrick, her sister and brother-in-law; Harold and Mary Lou Causby, all formerly of Shelby.

Granny is survived by her three children and spouses: Bill and Lydia Sherman and son Clinton, all of Boiling Springs, Sandy and Jimmy Beason of Boiling Springs, and Steve and Gloria Sherman of Shelby. Her seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren: Jim, Dawn, and James Beason, IV, of Boiling Springs, Dr. Amanda and Matt Seavey of Durham, Jennifer, Dustin, and Emerson Kerley of Boone, Daniel and Sarah Sherman of Shelby, Josh, Jaime, and Eliza Beason of Boiling Springs, Emily Sherman of Burlington, and Kevin Sherman of Shelby. She also leaves behind many special cousins, nieces, and nephews.

A memorial service and celebration of her life will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, June 20, 2014 at Cleveland Funeral Services Chapel conducted by Dr. Carroll Page. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home and other times at the home of Jimmy and Sandy Beason of Boiling Springs, NC.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to River Bend YMCA, 3005 Long Wood Drive, Shelby, NC 28152, First Baptist Church of Shelby, 120 N. Lafayette Street, Shelby, NC 28150, or to Hospice of Cleveland County, 951 Wendover Heights Drive, Shelby, NC 28152.

The family would like to express a sincere thanks to the staff of Carillon Assisted Living of Shelby for the loving care they gave to Granny during the last year.
