Aileen Wiggins Walker

Aileen Wiggins Walker, 88, of Shelby, went to be with her Lord on Friday, May 10, at Cleveland Pines Nursing Center under Hospice care.

Born January 6, 1925 in Lincoln County, Aileen was the daughter and the last surviving child of the late Guy W. Wiggins and Vernie Watts Wiggins.

She was a member of Dover Baptist Church since 1953 when she and her husband, Hugh, were baptized on the same day. For many years she taught in the children’s department, worked with the Acteens, sang in the adult choir, and served on the hostess committee.  She was a member of the Dorcas Sunday School class.  She retired from Ora Mill Company.  After retirement she worked part-time at Westview Baptist Church Daycare. She enjoyed cooking for her family, crocheting, and playing with her great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Hugh Logan Walker, Sr., a sister, Mary Lee Huffstickler, six brothers - John Wiggins, Andy Wiggins, G. W. Wiggins, Charles Edward Wiggins, Bob Wiggins, and Eugene Wiggins.

Aileen is survived by her son, Hugh L. Walker, Jr., (Buck) and wife, Janet; a daughter, Angela Walker; three devoted grandchildren - Travis Walker and wife, Stacey; Jason Walker and wife, Marie; Leigh Ann Fitzmorris and husband, Brandon; six precious great- grandchildren - Taylor and Melana Walker, Miles and Cadence Walker, Davis and Walker Fitzmorris,  all of Shelby.  She is also survived by four loving sisters-in-law - Bonnie Wiggins of Shelby, Pat Darty of Waco, Helen Hawkins of Boiling Springs, and Patricia Walker of Destin, Florida; and many loving nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank David and Libby Stanford, Thelma Weaver, Carolyn Hadnott, Helen Hawkins, Jerry and Joan McClellan, and Lorena McMurry for their loving assistance during her illness.  Cleveland Pines nursing staff and Hospice provided excellent care with dignity throughout her last days.  Also, much gratitude is given to the staff at Shelby Manor where she lived for three years prior to her death.

Celebration of Life service will be held on Tuesday May 14, 2013 at 2:00pm at Dover Baptist Church with Dr. Ervin Price III officiating. Burial will follow in Cleveland Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Monday May 13, 2013 from 6:00pm until 7:30pm at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home and Crematory and other times at 840 Greenbrook Drive Shelby.
