Al “Bud” Blickley age 91 died Saturday October 25, 2014 at Levine-Dickson Hospice House in Charlotte. Born in Kaska PA on November 23, 1922 he was the son of the late Leo and Barbara Swartz Blickley. Bud was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church in Charlotte. He served in the senior choir and the Fun In Serving Him (FISH) group. Bud was a devoted husband and loving father, grandfather and great grandfather, he enjoyed spending time with his family especially his great grandchildren. . Bud served in the Army during WWII in the combat Infantry and was the recipient of 2 Purple Hearts. He was a life member of VFW post 9337 in Gastonia and a life member of the American Legion. He was an avid golfer, enjoyed traveling, listening to gospel music, and shopping with his wife. In addition to his parents, Bud is preceded in death by his first wife, Dinah Hicks Blickley, and three sisters, Gladys Blickley, Margaret Owen, and Theresa Blickley.
He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Margaret Peggy Howell Blickley; step daughter, Kathy Lineberger and husband Rick of Mt. Holly; a godson, Steve Herron and wife Laurin of Clover SC.; a sister, Anna Mae Callan of Brockton Pa.; two brothers, Paul Blickley of Ft. Myers Beach Fl. and Gerald Blickley of Orwiggsburg Pa.; grandson, Joel Lineberger and wife Carrie; and two great grandchildren, Emma Jane Lineberger and Hannah Grace Lineberger.
Funeral service will be held on Wednesday October 29, 2014 at 1:00 pm at Calvary Baptist Church, 10301 Harwood Lane, Charlotte, with Rev. Brian Taule, Rev. Tony Harper and Rev. Adam Self officiating. Burial will follow at 3:30 pm at Sunset Cemetery, 412 W. Sumter Street Shelby NC 20150, with Military Honors. The family will receive friends an hour before the service from 12:00 pm until 1:00 pm in the sanctuary.
