Alan Scott Thornburg

Alan Scott Thornburg of Bell Road, Kings Mountain joined his Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday August 18, 2015 at Hospice of Kings Mountain.

Scott is survived by his wife of 30 years, Krista Panther Thornburg, a daughter and son in-law, Brittney and Tyler Grigg of Kings Mountain, in-laws, Austin and Peggy Panther of Shelby, brother Jason Devine of Shelby, brother and sister in-law John and Jennifer Panther and their children, Abbie and Mason of Rock Hill, SC. He is also survived by his mother Betty Thornburg from Shelby. Scott was preceded in death by his father, Newell Thornburg and a brother Rodney Thornburg.

Numerous children lovingly claimed Scott as their father, uncle or grandfather.

He could also be seen over the years with one of his many faithful dogs including Sammie Jo.

"Scott was also loved by his lunch buddies from all over the Cleveland County School System."

His extended family includes Eastside Baptist Church of Shelby, softball players at Kings Mountain High School, Catawba College and the Cleveland Rutherford Kidney Association.

Scott was a member Eastside Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon, member of the Pathfinders Sunday school class and of the Bible Study Class at the GCCBA with Dr. Alice Cullinan.

Scott's favorite Bible verse was Matthew 6:34." Don't be anxious about tomorrow, God will take care of your tomorrow too, live one day at time. "

Scott enjoyed using his love of hunting, fishing and gardening to share his testimony and God's words with everyone he encountered.

A Celebration of Scott's life will be held at Eastside Baptist Church on Saturday, Aug. 22, 2015, at 11:00am with Reverend Dale Byrd, Leland Kerr, and Jason Devine officiating

Memorials may be made to: Eastside Baptist Church ,1165 Wyke Road Shelby, NC 28150, C/O "Playground Fund" for all of Scotts kids, OR to the Cleveland Rutherfordton Kidney Association 1017 N Washington Street, Shelby NC 28150

Scott's life was a true example of God's love. His family would like to express a very special thanks to all who loved and cared for him during his journey with Jesus.
