Ann (Animeda) Byers Hampton,
 Ann (Animeda) Byers Hampton, passed away at Rice Home in Columbia, SC, March 22, 2012.  She was 100 years old.  She was the widow of Edward Eugene Hampton.

She was a graduate of Winthrop University with a Master's Degree from the University of South Carolina.  Her positions in Columbia District 1 Schools were teacher at Hamrick and Brennen Schools, Elementary Consultant,  and the first Principal at both Satchel Ford Road and Brockman Schools.   She was at Brockman for three years and at Satchel Ford Road for twenty-two years until her retirement.  The cafeteria at Satchel Ford Road was named Hampton Hall in her honor in 1996.  She taught Children's Literature at the University of South Carolina and Columbia College.  She received the Bernard Baruch Award in 1970 as the State Teacher of the Year.  

She was past State President of the Association for Childhood Education,  Elementary Principal's Association and the South Carolina Administrator's Association.  She also served as President of both Alpha and Alpha Delta Chapters of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society.

Survivors are a niece, Lynn Byers;  great nephews and great nieces Edward C. and Susan Byers, and Donna and Mark Cunningham; cousins John Wilson, Meda Cash and James Howell, Rebecca Chaney, Felicia and James Amidon, and Dewey and Etta Cash.  Dear friends include Dianne Smith and Diane Farr.

A Celebration Of Life Service will be held graveside at Mountain View Cemetery, Blacksburg, SC, n March 24, 2012, 2:00 PM, with Rev. Dr. Virginia Barfield, Dean and Vice-President of Academic Affairs at Lutheran Seminary.  The family will receive friends after the service.
