First Thursday -- Lunch with Susan will be celebrating its twentieth year.  This is a Shelby institution that is barely noticed, but one that draws many  women and men each month to Central Methodist Church for a community  gathering for lunch and a study of the Bible. The teacher is Susan Carlisle Bell, an art instructor at Gardner-Webb University. She also has a masters degree in Christian education. Lunch is noontime to one o’clock. Mothers of young children, and those on lunch break will appreciate that Susan begins the teaching at 12:10 and finishes by 12:50 p.m. There is no “homework,”  no  membership, and lunch is optional at $4.00. **Reservations are required for the lunch and nursery care**. People’s Baptist Church Celebrates 

20th Anniversary

Peoples Church will celebrate its 20th Anniversary on Sunday, October 3, 2010 at 5:00 p.m. Guest speaker will be Rev. William Thompson of St. Peter, Grover, NC. Peoples Church of Kings Mountain will host “To See His Glory” Revival Service on October 4-7 at 7:00 p.m. nightly. Rev. Joe Floyd, Gastonia, NC will speak on Monday-Wednesday. Rev. Bobby Houze of New Hope Baptist Church in Charlotte, NC will be there on Thursday.

Victory Baptist Church Revival

Victory Baptist Church, 531 Soco Gap Rd., Ellenboro, will hold a Revival on October 3-6. Guest speaker will be Rev. Robby Hensley of Sandy Level Baptist Church.  Services are Sunday morning, 11:00 a.m.; Sunday night 6:30 p.m. and Monday-Wednesday 7:00 p.m. nightly. There will be a special singing each night. Britt’s Annual Bike Show Fundraiser

The church will hold a “Then and Now Days Fish Fry” on Saturday, October 9th and the proceeds are for the Brotherhood Benevolence Fund. There will be Antique Cars, Farm Equipment, Household Antiques, and Music. Come Join the Fun! Festivities begin at 1:00 pm and the Fish Fry is from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm. The cost is $10.00 for adults, and ages 6-12 cost $5.00 and children under 6 eat free. We will also have to go plates.

“The Nudge Revolution”

Central UMC on the courtsquare in uptown Shelby invites the community to “The Nudge Revolution” workshop presented by Dr. Leonard Sweet on Saturday, October 9, from 3-5 pm. Dr. Sweet is currently serving as Professor of Evangelism at Drew University and previously served as President and Professor of Church History at United Theological Seminary for eleven years. Double Springs Car Seat Safety Check

A car seat safety check will be held Oct. 20 from 5 to 6:30 p.m. in the parking lot of Double Springs Baptist Church. Anyone transporting children are invited to bring your car with the car seat or booster seat and have it checked by experts to make sure it is safely installed. This is open to the public and is free of charge. This event is sponsored by the Health Ministry of Double Springs with the cooperation of Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
