Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 1207 W. Dixon Blvd., Shelby, will have “Service of the Longest Night”, Friday, December 21, 6:00pm. Christmas can be a painful time for some. It may be the first Christmas following the death of a loved one; it may be a time that has always been difficult. The holidays are billed as a happy time of year. Images of misty-eyed adults singing Silent Night or children filled with the wonder of Christmas come to mind. The constant joyous refrain of the season on the radio and television, in churches and shopping malls, reminds many people of what they have lost or never had. Broken relationships, insecurity of unemployment, weariness of ill health, pain of isolation, all can make us feel sad and lonely in the midst of the celebrating. For these reasons, the Stephen Ministry of Aldersgate United Methodist Church offers this special service. Please join us in sharing and hearing prayers, scripture, communion and music acknowledging that God’s presence is for those who mourn, for those who struggle; and that God’s word will always shine light into our darkness. It is a short, quiet service where one may be with God. May the Christ child, born in a lowly stable himself, as an outcast, bring light, comfort, peace and joy this holiday season.

Last year’s program was a true blessing and we are praying that this year’s will be an even bigger event. You will be pleasantly surprised at what God laid upon the heart of our director, Shirley Bridges, this year. This play touches the reality of life today, and the reality of our past and our ultimate futures.  Please plan to attend and bring friends and family along. Come with an open heart and mind. Can you think of a better way to celebrate the birth of Jesus than by coming to His house and praising Him? If you have not already given your life and heart over to Jesus, now is the time. What better gift for the Christmas season than accepting Eternal Life through Christ! Church contact: Pastor Tommy Cook (704)538-3249 home/(704)472-1529 cell or Debra Philbeck (803)230-0382.
