  An Awakening Concert Of Prayer will be held on Thursday, May 3,  6:30 p.m. The event is hosted by Bethel Baptist church, 606 S. Dekalb St., Shelby. This event is in honor of the Lord Jesus Christ, and corresponding with the National Day of Prayer. Everyone is invited to attend this special time of prayer. The desire is to see followers of Christ participate from every walk of life, crossing denominational lines in a beautiful expression of unity, as Jesus prayed that we might be “one” as “He and the Father are one”. Come to enjoy the presence of the Lord in worship, to open up our hearts in confession and godly sorrow, to intercede on behalf of those who are far from God, and to have the Church of Cleveland County awaken to His purpose for us in this hour of our nation’s history.    A National Day Of Prayer - Rally For The Marriage Amendment will be held on Thursday, May 3, 7:00 p.m. at Second Baptist Church, Cherryville. El Bethel Methodist Church, Kings Mtn.
   El Bethel United Methodist Church, 122 El Bethel Rd., Kings Mtn. will be holding an Auction on Saturday, May 4. The viewing will begin at 8 a.m. Auction begins at 9 a.m. Many great items. Furniture, mink jacket in mint condition, rabbit jacket, books and much more. Sausage biscuits, coffee and juice for sale at 8 a.m. Hot dog lunch beginning at 11 a.m. All proceeds go toward improvement projects and the 200 year celebration on June 3.

Harriett Memorial Free Will Baptist
   The Harriett Memorial Free Will Baptist Church of Caroleen will have a fish fry on Saturday, May 5th beginning at 3PM. The meal will consist of flounder filet or Catfish filet with  french fries, slaw, hushpuppies. This is a  fundraiser for the grounds committee to help with ongoing church projects. East Gold Street Wesleyan Church, Kings Mtn.
   East Gold Street Wesleyan Church, 701 E. Gold Street, Kings Mtn., will sponsor Ignite 2012, a Christ-centered weekend retreat to help youth and young adults grow closer to God. Come join them for music, food, games, fellowship, devotions and impactful messages designed to Ignite your passion for Christ. The event cost is $20.00 per person for the entire weekend (add $10.00 if you want an Ignite T-Shirt).  Not able to attend the entire weekend?  No problem, they will also allow admission to the retreat all day Saturday at a cost of $5 per person starting at 8:30 am.  This includes two services; games and dinner (bring your own lunch).   Sandy Plains Baptist Church will celebrate Baptist Men’s Day on Sunday, May 6. The guest speaker will be Bobby Richardson, who played professional baseball for the New York Yankees. The Yankees won American League pennants in nine of his first ten years. Bobby later become a minister; led Mickey Mantle to Christ when Mickey was on his death bed and preached Mickey’s funeral. The service will begin at 11 a.m.

Northside Baptist Church, Charlotte
  The African Children’s Choir will be performing at Northside Baptist Church at 6pm on Sunday, May 6th. You do not want to miss this opportunity to be blessed by the talent of these young orphans from Africa. The African Children’s Choir has been working with the most vulnerable children in Africa for 27 years, raising awareness of the plight of Africa’s orphaned and abandoned, but also showing the beauty, dignity and potential of each African child. They perform throughout the world bringing hope and joy to everyone they meet. They are a voice for the millions of children suffering in Africa. There is no cost for this concert, however we will be taking up a love offering for the children.

Friendly Chapel Baptist Church, Fallston
  Friendly Chapel Baptist Church, (2.5 miles east of Fallston) will have their annual Homecoming on Sunday, May 6th. Sunday School begins at 9:45.  Worship service begins at 10:45 with the adult choir singing and Pastor Norris Willis bringing the message. Old friends and new are invited to “come home” for some Spirit-filled singing and preaching. Camp Loy White, Casar
  Camp Loy White will hold Kid’s Kingdom,  a week-long resident camp held for rising first through sixth grade children.  Campers must be younger than 12 years old. The event will be held June 25-29 and July 23-27. Registration deadline is May 31. This camping experience places an emphasis on community. Kids work in small groups and grow in Christian behavior, attitudes, and responsibility.  As the forests, lake, and creek at Camp Loy White provide a setting within God’s creation, campers learn about and experience God’s gifts and our responsibility to care for those gifts.  In this community of faith, campers make new friends. Campers arrive at 3 PM on Monday and go home on Friday after the 5 PM closing program. Kids wake at 7:30 each morning and their day begins. Groups rotate between six stations to learn the daily Bible point.  They also have special guests on certain days.  After lunch and rest time, kids have swimming and free times.  Showers and bedtime stories end our day and lights go out at 10 PM.  They are served three nutritious, kid-friendly meals and daily snacks.  A lifeguard is always on duty for swimming and boating time.  Adults serve as counselors and teenagers are counselors-in-training.  Kids sleep in dorms with bunk beds.  E-mail peggyearl@hotmail.com for questions and info.
