Arthur "Art" Noel Mauney, Sr., 85, of Shelby, passed away Monday December 7, 2015 at Carolina Medical Center- Cleveland.

He was born March 3, 1930 in Cleveland County, a son of the late Charles Winslow and Fannie Bell Dedmon Mauney. He retired from the U.S. Navy after 22 years of service. Following the military he had a second career in textile management. He was a member of Westwood Heights Baptist Church. He served other area churches in the community as a Deacon and Sunday school teacher. He was a Member of Masonic Lodge #223 in Hollywood Maryland. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Leo Mauney and Joe Mooney, 3 sisters, Pauline Greene, Lois Pruett, and Dorothy Pittman.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Nancy Carolyn Jones Mauney, two sons, Arthur Noel Mauney, Jr. and his wife Robyn of Shelby, Paul Winslow Mauney and daughter in-law Paula Mauney of Elon, NC, one sister Edith Lawing and husband Sam of Forest City, a brother Bynum Mauney and wife Lona of Spartenburg, SC, and grandchildren, Arthur Noel "Trace" Mauney, III of Shelby, Christopher Paul Mauney of Elon, Avery Scott Mauney of Shelby, Maxwell Kenneth Mauney of Shelby, Presley Joy Mauney of Elon, Alyson McCaulley Mauney of Shelby. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service with military honors will be held 11:00am Thursday December 10, 2015 at Westwood Heights Baptist Church with the Rev. David Costner officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the church.

The family suggests in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made to the Baptist Children's Home of North Carolina, P.O. Box 338 Thomasville, NC 27360.
