Born in Gaffney, Mrs. Whelchel was the wife of Paul Whelchel of the home and the daughter of the late Bill and Jennie Mae McDaniel Parker. She worked as a homemaker and was a member of Rock Springs Baptist Church.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Whelchel is survived by two sons, Michael Whelchel and wife, Tammy, of Blacksburg and Brian Whelchel of the home; a daughter, Michelle Whelchel, of Blacksburg; two brothers, Bill Parker Jr. of Blacksburg and Sam Parker and wife, Paula, of Boiling Springs, NC; a sister, Debbie Parker, of Blacksburg; six grandchildren, Aron, Carlee, Dalton, Aedan, Elana, and Greyson; and several nieces and nephews thought of as grandchildren, Emily, Zachary, Jessica, Jada, and Jordan.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, June 25, 2013, from 6:00 - 8:00PM at Gordon Mortuary. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 26, 2013, at 3:00PM at Rock Springs Baptist Church with Rev. Dale Welch and Mr. Tyler Moss officiating. Interment will follow in Rock Springs Baptist Church Cemetery. Sammy Powell, Jerron Daves, Zachary Parker, Phillip King, David Richardson, Lonnie Patrick, Larry Jones I, and Westley Walker will serve as pallbearers.
The family will be at the residence.
