Bernice McMurry Hoyle born September 19, 1925, age 87 died September 5,
2013.
She was a native of Cleveland County, North Carolina and daughter of the
late Robert Lee and Selma Miller McMurry. She attended Gardner-Webb Junior
College, the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and received her
Masters degree from Appalachian State University of Boone.
Her life and love was teaching. She taught in the Gaston County Schools and
Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools. Later she became principal of the Rama Road
Elementary School in Charlotte. She returned to Cleveland County to help
care for her aging parents, where she became principal of the Washington and
Elizabeth Elementary Schools. She was then promoted to supervisor of the
Cleveland County Schools and later became assistant superintendent of the
Cleveland County Schools.
She was a lifelong member of the Kadesh United Methodist Church in Belwood
where she served as teacher of the Men's Bible Class and in many other areas
of leadership in the church. She belonged to the United Methodist Women of
Kadesh, was a member of the Belwood Home Demonstration Club and was on the
advisory board of the Senior Citizens Center of Shelby.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lee and Selma McMurry; her
husband, Foy Hoyle; a brother, Jack K. McMurry.
She is survived by three brothers, Bob and Margaret McMurry of Shelby, Joe
and Beverly McMurry, Fitzhugh and Judy McMurry all of Lawndale and a number
of nieces and nephews whom she loved and considered her grandchildren.
The funeral service will be 2:00 PM, Saturday, September 7, 2013 at Kadesh
United Methodist Church in Belwood. Burial will follow in the church
cemetery. Services will be conducted by Rev. Kathy Earley and Rev. Patricia
Chaput and pallbearers will be her nephews and nephews-in-law.
The family will receive friends in the fellowship hall following the
services. At other times the family will be at the residence.
