Betty was born on November 22, 1928 in Lamb County, TX to the late Robert Allen Cogdell and Rebecca Hoyle Cogdell.  She worked for Wamsutta Mills and for Broyhill Furniture Manufacturing for many years.  She was a lifetime and faithful member of Fork Creek Baptist Church. She enjoyed growing flowers, gardening, canning, but especially cooking for family gatherings. 

     In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Johnnie Pope; two sons, Benny Pope, Joe Pope and two brothers, Rev. Odell Cogdell and Claude Cogdell.

     Survivors include one daughter, Rebecca Ann Totoritis and husband, Paul of Bostic;  one son, Johnny Wayne Pope of Rutherfordton; four sisters, Etta Hoyle of Bostic, Agnes Beam of Forest City, Helen Baker of Morganton, Georgia Chapman and husband, John of Bostic.  She is also survived by two grandchildren, Donna Ann Rainsburg of Bridgton, Maine, Steve Anthony Moore of Dallas, TX and four great-grandchildren, Jonathon Lingerfelt, Bristol Lingerfelt, Megan Moore and Gavin Rainsburg.

     Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, May 2, 2011 at Fork Creek Baptist Church with Reverend Billy Cogdell and Reverend Keith Cogdell officiating.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time at the church.  Mrs. Pope will also lie in state at the funeral home from 8:00 a.m. until noon on Saturday.
