Betty Joyce Hamrick Poteat
 Betty Joyce Hamrick Poteat loving sister, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, went home to be with the Lord Saturday, January 29, 2011, after a two year battle with lung cancer.  She is now at every yard sale in heaven!

 

Betty was born in Cleveland County on October 13, 1934, to the late John Daniel Hamrick and Vernie Mae Waters Hamrick.  She was retired from Ester Mill and L&K Sewing, and was a member of Beaver Dam Baptist Church.

 

In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Jack Evans Poteat; brother, Charles Hamrick; two grandchildren Ashli Star Lyons and Jason Poteat; and son-in-law, Henry Hunt.

 

She is survived by four children; Jackie Poteat Steen, Dale Poteat and wife Teresa, Karen Poteat Hunt and Kim Poteat all of Shelby; three granddaughters, Angela McCoy, Tiffany Tomlinson, and Jennifer Haley; three grandsons, Chris Hunt, Chad Hunt, and Nicolas Deaton; six great-grandchildren, Raelynn McCoy, Tristian McCoy, Phyllis Wilson, Sara Deaton, Joseph Haley and Jersey-Lynn Haley; brother, Johnny Hamrick and wife Rae; sister Mary Smith and husband Jimmy; and her two best friends, Joyce Walker and Rita Bowen.

 

Visitation: Tuesday from 1:30 to 3:00 pm at Beaver Dam Baptist Church.  Condolences may be made online atwww.stameyfuneralhome.com

 

Funeral: Tuesday at 3:00 pm at Beaver Dam Baptist Church. The burial will follow the service in the church cemetery.

 

Officiating: Rev. Jimmy Black, Rev. Paul Sorrells, and Mr. Joe McCurry.
