Bible Study: PSALM 23
1The Lord is My Shepherd: meaning the Psalmist puts all his confidence in God, not in himself, or he would be lost like a sheep with no shepherd. I shall not want: this is positive faith never doubting. 2He  maketh me to lie down in green pastures: notice who is the leader and David obeys his master. He leadeth me beside the still waters: notice how everything is calm when David arrives. 4Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death: David was not afraid to go through the valley of the shadow of death. David was always out front as a leader, and it was hand to hand combat with whatever was given to you or whatever you brought along. They were all aware of what was at stake. Then he says to fear no evil meaning fear not the Devil. You have a God that is better to serve and can defeat the Devil and all his cohorts. The Devil as we know him was once an angel, one who rebuked the true God. When his change occurred, our God could have taken away all of Lucifer’s power. Isaiah 14:11-12 says: “Thy pomp is brought down to the grave, and the noise of thy viols: the worm is spread under thee, and the worms cover thee. How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! Palms 23: 5Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: Not just the bread of life but life itself with blessings. Thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. And then David says something that we should to our Lord who did so much for us to get us out of the Devil’s hands. We all have heard sometime in our life span that “I will help you any way I can, just call on me”. Jesus knew this about our living Soul and that is why he paid the price for our Soul not to go where the fire never dies down. (Jesus could say not quench and smile) because you and I do not have to go there.
6Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.
