Bible Study: We Know That We Are Christians
How do we know that we are Christians?  Is it because Grandma told us we were when we were small?  Actually, that’s not as far off as it sounds.  We know there will be no children in hell.  Although we are all born sinners, each of us is covered by Grace until we come to the age of accountability....or until we know better.  If something goes wrong in a person’s life and they never have the ability to determine right from wrong, then God’s grace will lead them home to Heaven.
The age of accountability varies with each individual, but when a person becomes of age that he or she can determine right from wrong and the Holy Spirit is dealing with their hearts to make a decision, their soul is in their hands.  Jesus has already paid the price for your sin on Golgatha Hill.  He paid with his life so that you may have eternal life with Him.  If you call on Him from the heart and you really mean it, He will forgive your sins and set you free.  Then when you tell others what Jesus has done, you begin to grow in grace.
If you are above the age of knowing right from wrong, you are still a child needing to be reborn out of the sin that you were born into. You have the wrong spiritual Father.  You need to talk to the Lord Jesus from your heart. Ask Him to help you. It doesn’t matter where you are.  You do not have to be inside the doors of a church to get saved. Jesus will meet you wherever you are.  You are what matters to Him;  not where you are, how you are dressed or what you look like.  It’s you, God’s creation, that He died for and He wants to keep you from a devil’s hell. Just get on your knees and come before Him with a humble heart.  Admit that you are a sinner.  Tell Him that you believe he died on that old rugged cross for you and then rose again the third day, thereby defeating death, hell and the grave.  Tell the Lord that He is your Savior and that you want to live your life for him and do His will for your life as long as He leaves you on this earth.  When you have met Jesus through repentance and being born again, you will KNOW that you are a Christian.  There will be no doubt.
So, back to the title.  We know that we are Christians, not because Grandma told us; not because we grew up in church; not because our parents are Christians.  We know we are Christians because we know Jesus.  We have been saved by the precious blood of Jesus Christ and have accepted Him as our Savior. We are each separate individuals and responsible for our own salvation.  Jesus only saves those who are willing to be saved.  He died for everyone.  It was a gift of love, but like any other gift, it has to be accepted.  Do you know that you are a Christian?  Do you want to be saved and have your name written in the Lamb’s book of life where it can never be erased?  Come to the cross and be born again.  Jesus will meet you there.
