Bible Study: Who Do You Receive?
Such a simple title, but to the Lord Jesus it really means a lot.  As I watched TV the other night, I realized just how many religions people are blasted with every day.    What is religion?  According to the dictionary, religion is “the belief in and worship of a superhuman controlling power, esp. a personal God or gods.”  Religion is far different from Christianity. You can have religion and worship a tree in the forest.  You can worship, praise, hug and kiss that old tree all you want, but it will always just be a tree.  That tree or any other “object” cannot save you or bless you or do the things that God can do.
God is real and alive.  That tree will never do anything, except maybe provide a little heat if you burn it up. If you think that tree is a substitute for our Savior, then you are barking up the wrong tree, so to speak.  Jesus tells us in Luke 9:47-48  “And Jesus, perceiving the thought of their heart, took a child and set him by him.  And said unto them, Whosoever shall receive this child in my name receiveth me: and whosoever shall receive me receiveth him that sent me: for he that is least among you all, the same shall be great.”  And right there is where old Satan slips in.
To be great is Satan’s push on each person that spreads the gospel with all the modern ways that we have that the Jesus workers did not have for many years.  Now if you can get an audience to send you money, you can be heard all over the world. If you can get your picture on TV, you will become famous and people will listen.  This is where the question comes in that you must answer to God.  Why are you doing it? If it is out of love for the Lord, then He will bless what you do and many souls will be helped. James, who was Jesus’ brother, wrote “He that knoweth to do good and does it not, to him it is sin”.
So who do you receive?  If it is Jesus and you are working for Him and to help further His kingdom, then God bless you!  If you are doing it for money or power or any other fleshly reason, God help you.  There will be a day of reckoning.
