Bill D. Babb

 

Bill D. Babb, of Kannapolis, NC passed away on January 19, 2013 at his home. The family will receive friends from 6 pm until 8 pm on Monday, January 21, at Whitley Funeral Home in Kannapolis, NC. 

 

A special Masonic service for Bill will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 22, 2013 at Harris Funeral Home Chapel, Kings Mountain, NC. Burial will be at Mountain Rest Cemetery, Kings Mountain, NC.

The family will also receive friends from 10 am to 11 am on Tuesday at the funeral home prior to the service.

 

 

Bill was born in Toccoa, Georgia on August 8, 1931 and is the son of the late Edgar and Anis Lee Babb.  Bill moved to Cleveland County at an early age.  He served in the 101st Armored Division during the Korean conflict.  After military service, he worked with the USDA - Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service and retired as a Regional Director.  He was President of the local chapter of the Retired Federal Employees Association.  He always strived for excellence in his job and took great pride in his work. 

 

Bill was active in local and state politics. He was inducted into the state Republican Hall of Fame in 2009. He was a man of his convictions and could always be counted on to solve problems, keep his word, and to be kind and compassionate to everyone he came in contact with. Bill was a fifty-year member of the Fairview Masonic Lodge 0339 in Kings Mountain, NC.

 

Bill was a devoted family man and will be greatly missed by his family: his wife Betty Harmon Babb; and three children: Gary Babb of Raleigh, NC; Susan Babb of Kannapolis, NC; Kevin Babb and his wife Lesa of Kannapolis, NC; and one very special granddaughter, Laura McIntyre of Charlotte, NC.   He also leaves behind one sister, Ramona Amole of Gloucester, Virginia.

 

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Shriner’s Hospital for Children (950 West Faris Street, Greenville, SC  29605) or to Bill’s home church, David Baptist Church (2300 David Baptist Church Road, Kings Mountain, NC  28086).
