Mr. Billy Joe Putnam, age 81 of Shelby, passed away Wednesday, January 20, 2016 at Wendover Hospice House.
He is survived by three children, Will Putnam of Shelby, NC, Elizabeth Cole and husband Gary of Mooresboro, NC, and Don Christopher Putnam of Grover, NC, three grandchildren, Amber Justice and husband Casey of Shelby, NC, Ashley Rollins of Mooresboro, NC and Will Putnam, Jr. of Wadesboro, NC, a great granddaughter, Maggie Claire Justice, a brother, Clifford Eugene Harrison and wife Ann of Gastonia, NC, and a half-brother, Bob Philbeck and wife Peggy of Spartanburg, SC.
Born June 10, 1934 in Cleveland County, Mr. Putnam was the son of the late Quinton Ohara Putnam and Nancy Griffin Putnam McDonald and was preceded in death by a great granddaughter, Molly Elizabeth Justice, a brother, Carl Harrison, and a sister, Elizabeth Putnam Greenway.
Mr. Putnam worked at Combustion Engineering as a fork lift driver. He enjoyed going to flea markets with his friends. He enjoyed watching old westerns. He especially enjoyed storytelling with his family and friends.
Memorial services will be held 2:00 pm Sunday, January 24, 2016 at Cleveland Funeral Services Chapel conducted by Rev. Rocky Shelton. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Sunset Cemetery
