Boyd Harvey Hendrick Jr., age 81, passed away Friday, June 05, 2015 at Carolinas Healthcare Systems-Cleveland. Born on July 24, 1933 in Caldwell County, to the late Boyd Harvey and Betty Carter Sherrill Hendrick. Boyd was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church-Shelby where he served on several different committees. He served in the Korean War in the U.S. Marines. He was a member of the American Legion Post 82, a former member of the Elks Club, a former President of the Civitians Club, he served three terms as President of the Shelby Swim Club now known as the Sharks Aquatic Club, was the founder of Shelby Business Cards which is now a division of Westmoreland Printing. Boyd enjoyed traveling, golfing, and was an avid Tar Heel fan. In addition to his parents, Boyd was also preceded in death by a brother, Bobby Hendrick and sister, Polly Hendrick; father-in-law and mother-in-law Ray and Gaynell VanDyke.

He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Rachel VanDyke Hendrick; son, Dr. David Hendrick and fiancée Tina Yarbro of Shelby; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Lynn and Dwight Gillespie of Shelby, sister-in-law Eleanor Hendrick of Charlotte; two grandsons, Adam Hendrick and Jackson Hendrick of Shelby; dear friend Chip Lavender and numerous other family members.

Memorial service will be held Tuesday, June 9, 2015 at 2:00pm at First Baptist Church-Shelby in the Webb Chapel with full Military Honors with Rev. Tony Tench officiating. Visitation will follow the service.
