Carl “Bud” Bunyan Brooks

Carl “Bud” Bunyan Brooks, age 87 died Thursday January 23, 2014 at Cleveland Pines. Born in Cleveland County on April 5, 1926 he was the son of John Bunyan and Vertie Irene Greene Brooks. Bud was a member of Boiling Springs Baptist Church., and served in the U. S.  Navy during WWII. He was a member of the Friendship Masonic Lodge #388 AF&AM. Bud enjoyed eating at the Snack Shop in Boiling Springs, farming, woodworking, traveling and raising cows. He was a people person and enjoyed being around his friends and family.  In addition to his parents, Bud is preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Betty Blanton Brooks.

Bud is survived by two sons, John Brooks and wife Cindy of Shelby, and Joe Brooks and wife Amy of Shelby; a daughter, Gretta McKee and husband Harry of Boiling Springs; five sisters, Polly McDaniel of Boiling Springs, Catherine Rogers and husband Ernest of Shelby, Becky Wallace, Carolyn Hunt and husband Bob, and Lib Jones all of Boiling Springs; six grandchildren, Mike McKee, Beth Canipe and husband Michael, Daniel Brooks and wife Keri, Dylan Brooks, C.J. Brooks, and Adam Brooks, and three great grandchildren, Kacie Martin and husband Jim, Ben Canipe, and Patrick Canipe.

Funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday January 26, 2014 with Military honors at Boiling Springs Baptist Church with Dr. James Richardson and Dr. Carroll Page officiating.  The family will receive friends following the service in the Life Enrichment Center. Burial will be at 11:00am on Monday January 27, 2014 at Cleveland Memorial Park with Masonic Rites, given by Friendship Masonic Lodge #388 AF&AM
