Carl Gordon Carpenter, 84, of Upper Cleveland County passed away
Sunday, March 25, 2012, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center after a brief
illness.
Born April 19, 1927 in Cleveland County, he was a son of the late Gordon and
Vertie Pruitt Carpenter and was also preceded in death by four brothers,
Roy, Ralph, Wayne, and Yates.
Mr. Carpenter was a farmer and also employed by Fiber Industries of Shelby
in the maintenance department. A lifelong member of Carpenter's Grove
Baptist Church, he served as a past deacon, Sunday School teacher, and
trustee. He had 33 years of perfect attendance in Sunday School. He also
served in the U.S. Navy during WWII.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Annie Ruth Propst Carpenter;
daughter Myra Strickland and husband Gerald, of Shelby; son Joe Carpenter
and wife Janet Heitgerd of Atlanta, GA; granddaughter Leslie Strickland
Queen and husband Jimmy, of Shelby; great-grandson Adam Queen; brother Grady
Carpenter of Johnson City, TN; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Visitation: 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Tuesday at Stamey Funeral Home, Fallston.
Funeral Service: 2:00 PM, Wednesday at Carpenter's Grove Baptist Church,
Lawndale

Burial: Carpenter's Grove Baptist Church Cemetery
