Carl Spencer Grigg, Sr.
 Mr. Carl Spencer Grigg, Sr., 87, died at his residence on April 22, 2011 after a brief battle with cancer.  A native of Cleveland County, NC, he was born on April 28, 1923 to the late Peter Franklin and Gertrude Hamrick Grigg.   A veteran of World War II, Carl served in the United States Army Air Corps attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant.  He served as a tail gunner in a B-24 Bomber that flew over 30 missions over Nazi Germany.  He was awarded the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal with two Bronze Stars; One Overseas Service Bar; a Good Conduct Medal; the AR 600-68 44 Air Medal and the 78HQ 8th AF 44 Distinguished Medal.  He and his beloved wife, Wilma, were owners of Carl Grigg Electrical Company from which he retired.  He was a member of Westview Baptist Church and also was a member of Cleveland Masonic Lodge #202.

In addition to his parents, Carl was preceded in death by a son, Carl Grigg, Jr.; by brothers, Charlie and Boyd Grigg; and by a sister, Pearl Grigg McLean.  He is survived by his beloved wife, Wilma Wright Grigg, of the home; by a son, Tommy Baxter and wife Julia, of Shelby; by a daughter, Diane Baxter Brogden and husband Harry, of Lincolnton; and by a brother, Lawrence Elwood Grigg and wife Carolyn of Hillsville, VA.  He is also survived by his loving grandchildren, Lee Brogden and wife Mary, Chris Brogden and wife Jenny, Tommy Baxter, Jr. and wife Lisa, Jennifer Baxter Boling and husband Jason, Vincent Baxter and wife Sherry, Jessica Hoopaugh and husband Chris, and Tonya Wacaster and husband David.  Also surviving are 17 great-grandchildren. 

The family will receive friends on Monday, April 25, 2011 from 1:30-3:00 at Westview Baptist Church.    Funeral services will be held at Westview Baptist Church on Monday, April 25, 2011 at 3:00 PM with the Rev. Rick Bowling and the Rev. Tracy Jessup officiating.  Interment will follow at Sunset Cemetery with full Masonic Rites.
