Carol Sanders Benton, 84, of the Peachtree Centre, but formerly of Blacksburg, passed away Thursday, July 31st, 2014 at Spartanburg Hospital for Restorative Care.
Born in Blacksburg, she was the widow of Brady Benton and the daughter of the late Dave and Elizabeth Ervin Sanders. Mrs. Benton retired from being Dr. Dubose's secretary after twenty-nine years of service and was a member of Broad River Baptist Church.
Surviving Mrs. Benton are one son, David Benton, and wife, Janice, of Blacksburg; one daughter, Beth Benton Waugh, and husband, Jimmy, of Gastonia; a brother, Melvin Sanders, of Spartanburg; two sisters, Grace Cash of Gaffney and Earle Turner of Rock Hill; four grandchildren, Will Benton and wife, Ashley, Samuel Benton and wife, Jennifer, Christopher Waugh, and Emily Waugh; one great-granddaughter, Addison Benton; and a special niece, Barbara Turner.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Benton was preceded in death by two sisters, Dorothy Camp and Lois Bell, and six brothers, Grier, Hugh, Foy, Joe, Arnold, and John Sanders.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, August 3rd, 2014, from 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm at Broad River Baptist Church. Funeral services will immediately follow at 3:00 pm with Rev. Dennis Willoughby officiating. Interment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery. Will Benton, Samuel Benton, Christopher Waugh, Jimmy Townsend, Donnie Smith, and Keith Porter will serve as pallbearers.

The family will be at David Benton's residence, 1216 West Cherokee Street, Blacksburg.
