Why music?

Take a snapshot of human existence, and one can conclude that we have come a long way in a short period of time.
Yet, a common thread in all cultures is reoccuring: the arts. Studying the arts is like looking at a photo from a different era and stepping inside. To experience the sounds and the sights or to sing and read words from hundreds of years ago can give insight into our past.
It is thought that over 50,000 years ago pre-historic humans were organizing pitches and rhythms to create music using instruments made from bone, wood, and other materials. Since music is part of us, it has a certain connection to the human spirit with a special means of expressing emotions. Music is an opportunity to create and communicate thoughts or feelings in a 'universal language.'
