Recently, about 125 of Cleveland Counties 4th, 5th, and 6th grade students participated in Elementary Honors Chorus.  This special event showcased a certain number of singers from each elementary school who auditioned in 2011 by singing the patriotic standard, "My Country 'Tis of Thee."  Students chosen were given a CD and a folder of 7 songs in sheet music to take home, learn, and memorize.  While most of the county schools' students were off for a teacher workday, these Honors Chorus students took a field trip to Kings Mountain High School's Barnes Auditorium to spend the day rehearsing and polishing music for the concert.
This dedicated bunch truly embraced the task of presenting their hard work to hundreds of family members, friends, and music enthusiasts.  With the curtains closed under the hot stage lights, the music teachers fanned the students with folders minutes before the concert to cool them off.  As the curtains were opened the families cheered with brimming excitement knowing how much work was poured into months of preparation and seeing it come to fruition that night.

Calling all students songwriters, musicians and singers!  We are looking for submissions to be showcased in our Cleveland County Artists feature:
