ARTIST SPOTLIGHT: SHADY OAK RAMBLERS

There is something to be said about a group of musicians that really listen to each other. Singing in harmony, taking lead breaks, or just knowing when to change the dynamics just enough to make the magic happen is something bluegrass bands do best. The Shady Oak Ramblers will be working on their first CD in September described as “traditional bluegrass music with a twist.” This local band was inspired by a shared love for bluegrass and gospel music. 20-year veteran on the guitar, Jeremy Bridges sings lead vocals. Also singing some lead vocals and tenor harmonies is Gary Whitaker, a talented banjo and mandolin player who has played in bands for over 35 years. Stand up bass player; Robert Wells has been playing music since the 1950’s and has shared the stage with Cleveland County’s own, Earl Scruggs. Phillip Jenkins, a banjo and lead guitar player, spent many years with The Far City Boys. His musical history traces its way back to a pioneer of the 3-finger banjo style, DeWitt “Snuffy” Jenkins, a North Carolina native. You can see a video of these talented musicians in action at the Darin and Brooke Aldridge Music Festival on their Facebook page: Shady Oak Ramblers Bluegrass Band. Go see them live, performing August 16th at 7pm at the Union Mills Learning Center Friday Night Bluegrass Show.
