Carolyn Kathleen Cook Carroll Nieves

Mrs. Carolyn Kathleen Cooke Carroll Nieves passed away at home in Shelby on December 29, 2015.
She is survived by her husband, Narcisco Nieves; one grandchild, Jodie Carroll; and five brothers: Charlie H. Cooke and wife Rose, James Clay Cooke and wife Gretchen, Virgil Harvey Cooke and wife Jean, Spurgeon D. Cooke and wife Sara, and Richard Duane Cooke.
She was born on June 14, 1934 in Rutherford County to James Rector and Iris Canipe Cooke. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Joseph H. Carroll, III; a second son, Joseph H. (Joey) Carroll, IV; and a brother, Edgar Junior Cooke.
Carolyn graduated from Piedmont High School in Lawndale, NC, and completed her nurses training at Shelby Hospital. Later, she received her B.S.N. from Gardner Webb University and her Nurse Practitioner certification from Memorial Mission Hospital in Asheville. She worked at various area hospitals and for a number of years in the office of Dr. Charles G. Lampley and later for Fiber Industries and Hoechst-Celanese Corporation. A member of First Baptist Church in Shelby, she was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She loved to travel in the U.S. and abroad.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 pm Saturday, January 2, 2016 at First Baptist Church in Shelby conducted by Rev. Tony Tench and Rev. Perry Holleman. A visitation will be held one h our prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow at Sunset Cemetery in Shelby.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church, 120 N. Lafayette St., Shelby, North Carolina 28150.
