Carroll Henderson Hamrick Sr

Carroll Henderson Hamrick Sr., age 87, died Saturday, July 4, 2015 at his home. Born in Cleveland County on March 27, 1928, he was the son of the late Charles Wakefield and Hester Ann Hill Hamrick. Carroll was a lifetime member of Poplar Springs Baptist Church. In the earlier years he was a deacon, treasurer, RA leader, Sunday school teacher, and sang tenor in the choir. In his later years, he was a member of the Triple L group and was a member of the Original Couples Sunday School Class. Carroll grew up farming and riding his pony through the fields and going to Shanghai School and worked in the family Dairy Business. He worked as Maintenance Supervisor and later in Security for Cleveland Community College. He enjoyed gardening flowers and vegetables, especially blueberries and blackberries, and working on lawn mowers, fishing with the grandchildren and reading. In addition to his parents, Carroll is preceded in death by a brother, John Berry Hamrick and two sisters, Annie Lou Hamrick, Evelyn Sue White and her husband Bob.

Carroll is survived by his wife of 66 years, Carolyn Dillingham Hamrick; a son, Carroll Hamrick Jr. and wife Ginger of Shelby; a daughter, Ava Bryson and husband Sid of Shelby; two brothers, his twin, Harrill Hamrick and wife Beth of Shelby and Wakefield Hamrick and wife Amelia of Lexington; a sister-in-law, Delores "Snookie" Hamrick of Shelby; five grandchildren, Ethan Hamrick, Alex Hamrick, Tracey Barnes and husband Charles, Chuck Bryson and wife Crystal, and David Bryson and wife Heather; and nine great grandchildren.

Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 7, 2015 at 11:00 am at Poplar Springs Baptist Church with Rev. Andy Oliver officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday, July 6, 2015 from 6:00 pm until 7:30 pm at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home and Crematory.
