A native of Burley, Idaho, she was the daughter of the late Donald Carroll and Elsie Nell Smith Odom.  She was retired as a long haul truck driver, having shared many miles and memories with her beloved husband William Frederick “Bill” Souders.  She was a lifetime member of the Order of the Amaranth and was also a member of Big Springs Baptist Church in Hollis.  She was known as a master quilter having quilted many beautiful works with her hands that she shared with family and friends.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her grandparents, by two brothers, Lance and Mark Odom, and by two sisters, Sue and Connie Odom.  Cathy faced her illness and treatment with a grace and faith that was purely a gift of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Cathy is survived by her beloved husband, William Fredrick Souders of Polkville; by a son, Robert John Souders and his wife Maggie of Polkville; by a daughter, Jenny Souders of Winnemucca, Nevada; by stepsons, Ernie Souders and wife Cynthia of Reno, Nevada, Billy Souders and wife Connie of Vancouver, WA; by a sister, Mary Klicke and husband David of Vancouver, WA; by her beloved grandchildren, Chyanne and Taylor Souders of Polkville, NC and Eleven (11) Step Grandchildren.

A visitation celebrating the life of Cathy will be held from 3:00 – 4:00pm on Monday, May 9, 2011 at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home and Crematory in Shelby.  A memorial service celebrating the life of Cathy will be held immediately following the visitation at 4:00pm in the Chapel of Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home and Crematory with the Rev. William S. “Bill” Troutman and Paul Scott officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Hospice Cleveland County, 951 Wendover Heights Drive, Shelby, NC 28150.
