Charles "Chick" Thomas Heavner

Mr. Charles "Chick" Thomas Heavner, 81, of Shelby, passed away Wednesday, September 28, 2016 at Wendover Hospice House in Shelby.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce McGinnis Heavner of the home, stepchildren, Jeffrey Jones (Debbie) of Forest City, NC, Vic Jones (Lisa) of Shelby, NC, and Tina Carson (Jerome) of Shelby, NC, fourteen step-grandchildren, fifteen great step-grandchildren, a step daughter-in-law, Tammy Jones of Shelby, NC, a brother, Jim Heafner of Double Shoals, NC, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Born March 25, 1935 in Cleveland County, Mr. Heavner was the son of the late Clyde Clayton Heafner and Selma Powell Heafner and was preceded in death by a stepson, Greg Jones, four brothers, Clayton Heavner, Pete Heavner, Tom Heavner, and Ken Heafner, and two sisters, Kate and Joann.

Mr. Heavner attended Morning Star Baptist Church. He worked and retired from Ora Mill and Shelby Yarn. He enjoyed gardening, giving and selling his vegetables, and spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 2 pm Saturday, October 1, 2016 at Cleveland Funeral Services Chapel. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Union Baptist Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Cleveland County, 951 Wendover Heights Drive, Shelby NC 28150.
