Charles Harold Houser, Sr., age 84, of Max Crowder Dr. died on Thursday, May 15, 2014 at his residence. He was born on November 24, 1929, a son of the late Marshall and Alma Dellinger Houser. He was retired from Carolina Freight with 25 years of service. Charles was a member of Gainesville Baptist Church. He enjoyed his career of driving for Carolina Freight and loved fishing. He and his late son, Sonny won the US Open Mackerel Tournament in 1995 on the “Busting Loose.”
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Charles H. “Sonny” Houser, Jr., and his brothers, Bob Houser and Jim Houser.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Pauline “Polly” Heavner Houser; sons, Spence Lee Houser, Steaven D. Houser, and Matthew Fredell all of Crouse; daughters, Nancy Houser of Crouse, Donna Rae Houser of Cherryville, and Tonda Fowler of Crouse; brother, Donald Houser and wife, Margaret of Homestead, Fla.; sister, Rebecca Huss and husband, Michael of Crouse; grandchildren, Charlee Wise, T.J. Carter, Sharleen Doak, Crystal Isaac, McKenzie Houser, and Nikki Houser; great-grandchildren, Bubba Doak, Dusty Doak, Heather I. Elmore, and Katie Isaac; great-great grandchild, Carli Elmore; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, May 17, 2014 at 3:00 PM at Cherryville Missionary Methodist Church with Rev. Bobby Holtsclaw officiating. Burial will follow at City Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 1:30 to 2:45 prior to the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Cleveland County, 951 Wendover Heights Dr. Shelby, NC 28150.
