Charles Miller Tomlinson, Jr.

Charles Miller Tomlinson, Jr. age 90 died Monday September 22, 2014 at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte. Born in St. Mary’s GA. on August 15, 1924, he was the son of the late Charles Miller Tomlinson, Sr. and Geneva Briggs Tomlinson. In 1944 he joined the 95th Infantry division, 377th Infantry Regiment. On November 22, 1944 the 95th Infantry division conquered Metz and the Division became known as the “Iron Men of Metz.” (The city of Metz had not been conquered for centuries) Charles married Amy Rose Tisdale on May 18, 1946 at Alcolu, SC and moved to Fernandina Beach, FL. Charles and Rose attended First Baptist Church of Fernandina Beach for 50 years and recently joined Northside Baptist Church in Shelby. They both have had a long and confident faith in Jesus Christ and the family and relatives take great joy in celebrating the life of this determined and inspirational man. Charles and his son, Chuck, enjoyed golf, baseball and fishing together. In addition to his parents, Charles is preceded in death by a sister, Ann Gooding, and a brother, William Tomlinson.

 

Charles is survived by his wife of 68 years, Rose Tisdale Tomlinson; a son, Charles “Chuck” Miller Tomlinson III and wife Barbara of Shelby; and a granddaughter, Margaret Rose Adams and husband Robert “Bob” of Pasadena, MD.

 

Funeral service will be held on Thursday September 25, 2014 at 6:30 p.m. in the chapel of Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home and Crematory with Rev. Neal Efird officiating. The family will receive friends an hour before the service from 5:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. Burial will be on Saturday, September 27, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. at Oak Grove Cemetery in St. Mary’s, Georgia.
