Charles W. Murray

Charlotte - Mr. Charles W. Murray, 89, formerly of Waco, NC passed away on Tuesday, February 23, 2016 at the home of his daughter.

Charles was born in Brooklyn, NY in 1926, the son of the late Olin Lindsey Murray and Maude Richards Murray. Charles was a Veteran who served in the U.S. Navy during WWII as a Motor Machinist's, Third Class. He was a retired commercial refrigeration technician from Carrier Corporation in Charlotte after 35 years of service. He was a Member of Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church of Charlotte. Charles was a Member and Past Master of Cherryville Masonic Lodge #505 A.F. & A.M. in Cherryville and a Past Master of Excelsior Masonic Lodge #261 A.F. & A.M. in Charlotte, Member of Oasis Shriners of Charlotte, Hillbilly Clan #13 and Cherryville Chapter #156 Order of the Eastern Star. He was a Member of the United Association of Local Union #421 of Pipe Fitters for 58 years. Charles also enjoyed gardening, watching his plants grow, canning vegetables and sharing them with his neighbors.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Jessie Faulkenbury Murray; a son, Charles Olin Murray, and daughter, Iris Murray Dreyer.

Survivors include daughters, Janet Yori and Barbara Vann with Son-in-Law, Mac Vann of Charlotte. Charles loved being the only brother to his three sisters, Katherine Steele of Charlotte and Frances Helms and Dorothy Cook both of Monroe. He loved saying that each of them have one brother! His legacy leaves behind five empowered grandchildren in Kathy Watson and husband Greg, Donnie Barnes and wife Ashely, Charles E. Murray and wife Jodi, Ricky Deese; and Alexandria Supino and husband Michael; eight great grandchildren: Cameron, Callie and Olin Murray; Kevin and Zach Barnes; Chase and Emma Watson; and Bentley Deese.

Visitation will be on Friday, February 26, 2016 from 9:45 to 10:45AM at Stamey-Cherryville Funeral Home & Cremation Service.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00AM Friday, February 26, 2016 aStamey-Cherryville Funeral Home & Cremation Service with the Rev. Billy Towery officiating.

The family will have a visitation from 2:00 to 3:00PM at Mineral Springs United Methodist Church, 5915 Old Waxhaw-Monroe Rd, Monroe, NC 28112.

Entombment will be at 3:30PM with Masonic Rites at Lakeland Memorial Park, 1901 Lancaster Avenue, Monroe, NC 28112
