Charles "William" Greene
Charles "William" Greene, age 82, of the Chase Community, passed away on Wednesday, February 17, 2016 at his residence.
Born October 1, 1933 in Rutherford County, he was a son to the late Clarence Watkins and Dora Watkins Heffner. He was a graduate of R-S Central, class of 1951 and a longtime member of Floyd's Creek Baptist Church where he served as a choir member, an usher and a faithful member of the Fellowship S.S. class. William worked for Fieldcrest Mills for thirty years. He also worked for Scott Vending Company and the municipal water departments of Sandy Mush and Forest City for several years before his retirement. He was a member of the Cliffside Masonic Lodge #460 for fifty years and a 32nd degree Mason. William was an avid North Carolina Tar Heel fan and enjoyed playing basketball, fishing, hunting and golfing. He was also known for his wonderful sense of humor.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Dewey Watkins and son-in-law, Adrian "Lucky" Rogers.
Survivors include his loving wife of sixty-two years, Kay D. Greene; daughter, Arlene Rogers of Conway, SC; son, Allen W. Greene (Tonda) of Forest City; brother, Eddie Watkins (Becky) of Columbus, NC; granddaughter, Kristina Cook (Roy) of Myrtle Beach and special sister-in-law, Bobbie Jean Rhymer of Forest City.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 20, 2016 at Floyd's Creek Baptist Church with Reverend Robert Carnell, Reverend Shane Kirby and Reverend Terry White officiating. The family will receive friends beginning at 1:00 p.m. until service time at the church. Interment will follow service in the church cemetery.
The family wishes to thank the caring staff of Hospice of Rutherford County for their compassion and a special thank you to William's nurse, Rana Crowder.
