Christine Davis Reid

Mrs. Christine Davis Reid, age 92 of Shelby, NC, passed away Thursday, December 25, 2014 at White Oak Manor, Kings Mountain, NC.  Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Sunday, December 28, 2014 at Cleveland Funeral Services and Crematory conducted by Dr. Rit Varriale.  A visitation will be held from 1:30 – 3:00 PM prior to the service at the funeral home or at other times at the home of Christine.  Burial will follow at Elizabeth Baptist Church Cemetery conducted by Rev. Clinton Padgett.  

   She is survived by four children, Richard Reid and wife Tina of Gastonia, NC, Patti Reid Allred and husband Floyd of Shelby, NC, Phil Reid and wife Sherrie of Shelby, NC, and Dwight Reid and wife Cheryl of Simpsonville, SC, nine grandchildren, Karen Timmons and husband Todd of Sumter, SC, Angie Sistare and husband Dale of Sumter, SC, Jonathan Reid, Kristen Reid, and Jaycee Reid, all of Gastonia, NC, Brittany Reid James and husband Shawn of Shelby, NC, Landon Reid of Shelby, NC, Matthew Reid and wife Anna of Salt Lake City, UT, and Jonathan Reid of Columbus, GA, nine great grandchildren, a brother, Rev. Walter R. Davis and wife Bessie Mae of Dayton, OH, and numerous nieces and nephews.

   Born August 29, 1922 in Henderson County, Mrs. Reid was the daughter of the late James Madison and Lula Mae (Redden) Davis and was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Warren James Reid, four brothers, Archie M. Davis, James Percy Davis, Lon A. Davis, and Benjamin F. Davis, two sisters, Ellen J. Stuart and Julia D. Clapsaddle.  Mrs. Reid graduated from Grace Hospital School of Nursing in Morganton, NC in 1943.  After graduation, she continued her nursing until retirement in 1992 after 49 years of service.  She was a member of Elizabeth Baptist Church where she was a member of the Keenage Sr. Adult Choir.  She enjoyed cooking, baking, and spending time with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren.

   The family would like to express sincere thanks to the staff at the White Oak Manor for the loving care they gave Mrs. Reid during her time there and to Hospice Cleveland County for making her last days comfortable.  Also, the family expresses special love and gratitude to Sandra Avery for her continued care and devotion.

   In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Cleveland County, 951 Wendover Heights Drive, Shelby, NC 28150 or to Elizabeth Baptist Church Building Fund, 130 South Post Road, Shelby, NC 28150.
