Christine Virginia Hill Haynes

Ms. Christine Virginia Hill Haynes, 74, of 113 Cypress Glenn Apartments, Shelby, NC, was called home to rest on Sunday, September 22, 2013, at Wendover Hospice, in Shelby.  She was born on November 13, 1938 in Cleveland County to the late Thomas Jefferson and Eliza Nickles Hill.

Christine was a dedicated member of Shiloh Baptist Church.  Over the years, she was a member of the Wilson Woods Mission, along with the Spiritual and Mass choirs.  She was also a member of the Eastern Star.

Despite her illness, her faith never departed.  Those who knew her will remember her generosity, compassion, love of music and outspokenness.  Her gift of encouragement will extend to the many generations that follow.  She will be greatly missed.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her seven brothers, Columbus Hill, Johnny Coats, Ted Hill, Willie Kee, Jay Hill, Joe Hill and Thomas Jefferson, Jr. and her six sisters, Eula Hawks, Rachel Manning, Luella Hill, Eloise Williams, Kathleen Peaks and Beatrice Dawkins.

She is survived by her sister, Mildred “Penny” Spann of Shelby; three sons, Derrick Haynes of Shelby, Dennis Haynes (Penny) of Gastonia, NC and John Haynes of Bessemer City, NC; her ten grandchildren, Kristia Hayes of Fort Washington, MD, whom she raised as her own daughter, Derreka Thomas (Travis) of Columbia, SC, Keisha Haynes of Shelby, Deitra James of Huntsville, Al, Tiana Haynes of Gastonia, NC, Jonathan Haynes of Boston, MA, Denzel Haynes of Charlotte, NC, Bradley Haynes of Asheville, NC, Dion Haynes of Shelby and Coraledra Haynes of Shelby; ten great-grandchildren, Tristan Hayes, Christian “London” Hayes, Brendan Hayes, Jy’naia Thomas, Kaitlyn Thomas, Carmen Thomas, Amir Haynes, Braelyn Haynes, Ti’Aisha Fullove and Kaleigh Haynes; a special niece, Sherri Grier and a special nephew, Ryan Gingles and a host of other nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends

 

 

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, September 28, 2013 at 3:30 PM at Shiloh Baptist Church with Rev. Danté Murphy officiating.  Burial will take place at Sunset Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 3:00 PM until 3:30 at the church on Sunday.  Condolences can be expressed at
