Claude Lee Lavender II

Claude Lee Lavender II, age 75,  died Wednesday June 5, 2013 at Hospice Cleveland County. Born in Stanly County on January 25, 1938 he was the son of the late Claude Lee and Bessie Sue Wilson Lavender.  Mr. Lavender graduated Number Three High School and attended Gardner Webb College and Cleveland Community College. He was a lifelong member of New Hope Baptist Church where he was a former Deacon and Sunday School Teacher. He served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Heilbronn, Germany. He was a former member of the Number Three Ruritan and a charter member of the Number Three Volunteer Fire Department. He was a lifelong farmer and retired as a mail carrier from the U. S. Postal Service.

Mr. Lavender is survived by his wife of 48 years, Jacqueline “Jackie” Hendrick Lavender; three daughters, Susan Lavender Wood and husband Tom of Charlotte, Lynn Anne Lavender of Mt. Pleasant SC, and Elizabeth “Betsy” Lee Lavender of Earl; two grandchildren, Catherine Elizabeth Wood and Emily Caroline Wood.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday June 8, 2013 at 11:00am at New Hope Baptist Church with Rev. Russ Bradley and Rev. David Gordon officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday June 7, 2013 from 6:00 pm until 7:30 pm at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home and Crematory.
