Clifford Rufus Conley

Clifford Rufus Conley, age 78, died Monday, January 9, 2017 at Peak Resources in Shelby. Born in Cleveland County on June 4, 1938, he was the son of the late William Francis Conley and Ruby Estelle Hamrick Conley Allen. Clifford was a member of New Hope Baptist Church where he enjoyed playing the hand bells and served as a former Deacon. He was a loving husband, devoted father and grandfather and a hard worker. Clifford served as a former Chief and volunteer fireman for Number Three Volunteer Fire Department. He was co-owner of Number Three Body shop before he opened Conley Body Shop and Wrecker Service in Earl. Clifford enjoyed going to the beach where he could surf fish and enjoy being outdoors. In addition to his parents, Clifford is preceded in death by a sister, Carol Conley.

Clifford is survived by his wife of 58 years, Ann Nichols Conley; a son, Wayne Conley of Earl; a daughter, Lisa Simpson and husband Gary of Earl; 10 grandchildren, Nikki Moore, Nick Putnam, Cayce Renfroe, Cale Conley, Marybeth Conley, Chase McDaniel, Harley Simpson, Jay Simpson, Alexis Simpson, and Kimmie Simpson.

Funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 12, 2017 at 1:00 pm at New Hope Baptist Church with Rev. Russ Bradley officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends an hour before the service from 12:00 pm until 1:00 pm in the sanctuary.
