Cornelia Sparks Barnett
 Mrs. Cornelia Sparks Barnett, 94 of 860 West Marion Street, Shelby, NC died May 3, 2011 at home where she lived for 72 years.  Mrs. Barnett was a graduate of Shelby High School and Mitchell Junior College, Statesville, NC.  She was a homemaker.  She had been a member of Shelby Presbyterian Church since 1929, often speaking of her love for her church family, and the Holy Scriptures.  She served Shelby Presbyterian Church as an elder.  She was honored in 1997 with an Honorary Life Membership, given by the Presbyterian Women, Presbyterian Church, USA.

She had many friends and they were very special in her life.  She was a member of the Shelby Junior Charity League, serving as treasurer for many years.  She was an avid reader and enjoyed her book club (Ex Libris Book Club) and bridge clubs. 

She married Robert Campbell Barnett in Shelby Presbyterian Church in 1941.  She was preceded in death by her parents Mr. and Mrs. W B. Sparks and her husband, Robert C. Barnett who died December 29, 1975.

She is survived by her two children, Robert C. Barnett, Jr., Belmont, NC and Lila Barnett Rash and her husband Michael L. Rash, Charlotte, NC; two grandchildren, to whom she was very devoted, Allison Barnett Hux and husband, Mark Hux and Robert Campbell (Cam) Barnett III and fiance Sally M. Noblitt, three great grandchildren Claire, Lila and Kate Hux; and her very special niece and her husband, Cornelia R. Pleasants and D. John Pleasants.   The family wants to thank her caregivers Ann Weaver, Janice Huskey and Elaine Robertson for their special love and care.

Her funeral will be Thursday, May 5 at 4 p.m. Shelby Presbyterian Church to be followed by visitation in the fellowship hall.  Dr. Luke Harkey will be officiating.  Burial will be in the old historic Bethel Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Clover, SC.
