Mr. Dan Avery Smith, 66, of Silchester Lane died Wednesday March 10, 2013 at Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte. Born in Cleveland County, he was the son of the late Julian Elbert and Helen Pritchard Smith. Growing up he was a member of Sharon United Methodist Church and is currently a member of First Assembly of Concord. He served in the U. S. Army during the Vietnam Conflict, was a manager of Winn Dixie in Huxley Village in Shelby, and then retired from the U.S. Postal Service as a supervisor.

Mr. Smith is survived by his wife of 30 years, Wanda Smith; two sons, Todd Smith of Mt. Holly, and Daniel Smith and wife Vicky of Concord; a daughter, Lauren Smith of Charlotte; a granddaughter, Taylor Smith; and his beloved "Dixie".

Graveside Services will be held at 11:30am on Friday March 12, 2013 at Sharon United Methodist Church Cemetery with Dr. Bradley Price and Rev. Joe Phillips officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00am until 11:00am at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home and Crematory.
