David Joe Fortenberry, 74, of 149 Andrews Drive, Grover, NC, went home to be with the Lord, Sunday, May 26, 2013, at his home. Born in Cleveland County, NC, he is the husband of Linda Gibson Fortenberry of the home and was previously married to the late Reba Pruitt Fortenberry. He is a son of the late Clevie E. and Ruby Mae Roberts Fortenberry. He was a member of Mt. Whitaker Baptist Church where he taught Sunday School for ten years. He was retired from Minette Mills.
In addition to his wife, Linda, he is survived by four daughters - Cindy F. Ray of Blacksburg, SC, Robyn Fortenberry and Amanda F. Talley both of Grover, NC, and Della F. Childers of Kings Mountain, NC.; three sisters - Faye Kidd of Shelby, NC, Judy Ross of Fallston, NC, and Jeanette Costner of Taylors, SC; two brothers - Marvin Fortenberry of Boiling Springs, NC, and Keith Fortenberry of Blacksburg, SC; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents and first wife, he is preceded in death by three sisters - Dorothy Fortenberry, Carolyn Davidson and Connie McCain; and one brother - Steve Fortenberry.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, May 28, 2013, from 2-3:00 PM, at Mt. Whitaker Baptist Church, Blacksburg, SC. A Celebration of Life Service will begin at 3:00 PM with Rev. Michael D. Owens officiating. Burial will follow at Clingman Memorial Gardens. At other times, the family will be at the home.
