David Milton "Pete" Stamey
 David Milton "Pete" Stamey, 72, of 145 Oak Grove Clover Hill Church Rd., died Friday, November 18, 2011 at Cleveland Regional Medical Center in Shelby.

 

Born in Cleveland County, he was a son of the late Wyatt Milton Stamey and Gazzie Lena White Stamey.  Mr. Stamey was a lifelong member of Polkville United Methodist Church, a Director for Rutherford Electric Membership Corporation and former Chairman of the Cleveland County Board of Commissioners.  A member of Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity, he received his bachelor's degree from NC State and master's degree from Western Carolina and was Vice President of Continuing Education at Cleveland Community College when he retired.  Mr. Stamey served as a Staff Sergeant in the US Army.

 

In addition to his parents, Mr. Stamey was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Ann Hall.

 

He is survived by his wife of fifty years, Nancy Williamson Stamey; two sons, Hunter Stamey and wife, Lara of Greensboro and Alan Stamey of Polkville; brother, Jim Stamey and wife, Ruth of Polkville and a number of nieces and nephews.

 

A celebration of life service will be at 3:00 pm Sunday at Polkville United Methodist Church with Rev. Bill Lovelace officiating.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the church fellowship hall.
