David Ray Mellon, Sr of Shelby, NC, died at his home on August 9, 2012. A native of Cleveland County, Mr. Mellon was the son of the late Stowe Franklin Mellon & Mary Alice Causby Herald.  He had worked as a Heavy Equipment Operator. He was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Cherryville and the American Hunting Club.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Faye Mellon, a son, David Ray Mellon, Jr., and a daughter, Mindy Mellon all of the home; a brother, Mark Mellon of Cherryville and a sister, Karen Wilson of Grover.

The family received friends at the home on Saturday, August 11, 2012.  A memorial service was held at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Cherryville on Sunday, August 12, 2012 at 3:00 p.m. with the Rev. Jerry Brooks officiating.
